Californian Bungalow

This project is for an extension to an existing suburban Californian Bungalow in North Perth.

The family wanted additional open plan living space seamlessly connected to the outside, yet not get blinded by the fierce afternoon western sun which troubled them previously when spending time in the garden.

The solution was to create a new north facing wing overlooking the remodelled garden similar to a closer would, protected from the sun through its orientation and the roof overhang or sun filter.

This allowed the family to blur the boundary between inside and outside living – and experience day and night from inside of the house.
